The flower doesn't dream of the bee - What we can learn from the flower.

I saw this quote a few days ago when I was searching for quotes for my Instagram feed and it was one of those moments where you pause for a few seconds. I was like, "Whoa"! It's not that often that a quote does that to me, but this one resonated for lots of reasons.

It got me thinking about my journey over these last almost 6 years......

When I started my journey I was focused on the end goal (for me surgery), yet it seemed like a lifetime away. At the start I felt like no matter what I was going through; the end was such a long way away that it was almost impossible to see myself having completed this journey.

As the first few months went by after getting over the nerves of just leaving the house and then having to contend with the abuse I faced daily from strangers, it still felt like a million miles away.

But like the flower, I kept growing.

You may ask why I kept putting myself through this daily abuse?

I knew that I couldn't go back to living as I was, irrespective of what others thought.

I kept growing - because going back would mean that planting the seed and starting this journey was just a waste of time.

There were times when I felt like ripping out the stem and going back to my old self.

Too many times.

But speaking to others who were going through what I was actually gave me perspective, as did talking to other women. Learning how they'd overcome adversity gave me skills that helped me get through the difficulties of bulimia, self loathing and body dysphoria.

I also understood that this was not an overnight process and that keeping going once I started was all I could do, if I wanted to blossom.

Fast forward 3 years, 11 months and 26 days and I had the surgery I'd longed for my whole life. Some would say I'd blossomed then.

I think for the most part I had. But I think that I'm still growing.

We all have goals and we all want them instantly. In an era of instant gratification, where the longest we have to wait for something is next day delivery, it's easy to get discouraged by the lack of tangible progress.

Like the flower you have to remember that you will blossom. The bee (your goal), will come to you when you are ready to receive it.

Keep your goal in mind, but don't forget that you need to grow first. Once you're ready to receive.... that's when your bee comes along.
